Hitori Arukimasu is the nom de Japonais
of St.Petersburg artist & author jonathan schork.
Born & raised in New York State's Catskill Mountains,
schork has a very deep connection to the natural world,
which has influenced much of his creative work.
A lover of language & culture, he makes travel a cornerstone
of his life. "I'm one of those people who doesn't really belong anywhere,"
he admits with a grin. "I think of myself more as a citizen of the world."
Perhaps best known for his monumental sculptures, schork also paints,
makes photographs & movies, couture & cuisine, architecture & landscape design.
It is his writing, however, in which he invests the greatest hope for
making the world a better place. He has written for the fashion magazine
Disfunkshion, penned newspaper articles & blogs about travels in Eastern Europe
& Burning Man, and the short plays Contra-indications (2011),
Good Grooming for the Discriminating Gentleman (2012),
Sailing With Unsettled Spirits (2013), and The Commencement Speaker (2014).
His books include Diversifolio (2004), Fearless Inanna (2015), & The Love of Simon Fox (2016).
